RVA is a community led organisation working in East Sussex. We are a registered charity (1117546) and a not for profit company (5333784). Our main work is to support local community groups with help, information and support but we also run community projects and services ourselves, support volunteering and strive to help improve the local economy in a socially and environmentally sustainable way.

Aims and Objectives

We seek to strengthen the social and economic well-being of local communities in Rother and surrounding areas and help people fullfill their potential in a socially and environmentally sustainable fashion.

The aims of RVA are to:

  • Promote local community action;
  • Improve the quality and effectiveness of the local voluntary and community sector;
  • Proactively identify changing community needs and facilitate the development of services to meet those needs with the voluntary and community sector playing a key role;
  • Establish effective working relationships between the voluntary sector, statutory sector and other outside bodies;
  • Enable the local voluntary and community sector to influence strategic policies and priorities

In undertaking this role RVA has a number of underlying strategic principles:

  • to promote equality
  • to develop active communities
  • to grow the social economy
  • to highlight issues of disadvantage
  • to highlight the rural dimension
  • to build sustainability

To further our work  RVA will:

  • give priority to working with people whose full participation in society is limited by economic, physical and social disadvantage
  • enable all people to collectively play an active part in their community
  • enable the diverse views of the local community and voluntary sector to influence strategic priorities and planning
  • uphold and promote good practice in working within these declared beliefs and values and to work towards ensuring the services offered by VCO’s in Rother are of the highest possible standard
