RVA’s Community Champion Award with the Observer Newspaper Series

Celebrating local people who make a difference

All over Rother there are many wonderful people helping to make our community a better place.

There is no “typical” volunteer – they can be any age, from any background and at any stage of life. But whoever they are and whatever they do, they have one thing in common: they are essential to the well-being of our community.

We know that volunteers don’t expect money, praise, or even thanks for what they do. They give their time selflessly because they want to make a contribution to our community. They are under the radar most of the time but we think they should be celebrated for the champions they are.

Every month RVA and the Observer will choose a group or individual who is currently making a difference in Rother and present them with a Community Champion Award. We will tell you about the work that they do, how this helps other people in our community and why they deserve the award.

We cannot hope to honour every Community Champion but our aim is to put a spotlight on the voluntary and community sector by featuring an individual or group of people who are making a contribution to the well-being of Rother. We hope that this will not only show our appreciation for all the many wonderful people helping to make our community a better place but will also inspire others to get involved.

If you have thought about volunteering but weren’t quite sure what you could do or where to go to find out more, then please come and talk to us at RVA.  We can point you in the direction of local organisations who are looking for people to help out.  You don’t have to make a big commitment – even if you just have a couple of hours a month to spare, it will make a difference to someone.

RVA is the professional body that drives the voluntary and community sector in Rother. Our job is to provide advice, information and support for groups and initiatives that bring social benefits to the neighbourhood.  These groups provide a vital service, but they they often operate in isolation, often without funding or support. We provide expert advice and practical support to help them access funding and operate effectively. We look forward to hearing from you!
