Recruiting: Chair of Board of Trustees at St Michael’s Hospice

The Hospice is looking for its next Chair, which is a non-Executive role, and has a key role across their organisation and services. The Chair and the Board hold the CEO to account for the Charity’s purpose, values and strategic priorities. They will provide collaborative leadership of the Board of Trustees, ensuring each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.


The Chair will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the CEO on the performance of the Leadership Team. He or she will also ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the Leadership Team to ensure the charity achieves agreed objectives. He or she will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the CEO. The Chair is expected to meet regularly with the Chief Executive and also represent the Charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders.

The Chair is not remunerated as it is a volunteer role. On average the role occupies one day a week in a cumulative sense although the Chair has to be flexible about timing and availability.

Applications are invited from across Hastings and Rother. The Hospice is also committed to increasing the diversity of its Trustees and welcomes applications from under-represented groups who could help inform and develop all areas of its work.
