Bexhill Lions Wheel and Walk

Bexhill Lions Wheel and Walk

A new fun, friendly and colourful event will be taking place along the Bexhill promenade on Sunday 16th September. It’s for mobility scooter users, wheelchair users, walkers of all ages, shapes and sizes! Everyone’s welcome, regardless of mobility level.

Organised by the Bexhill Lions Club, this non-competitive event will start at the Bexhill Sea Angling Club (TN40 1PJ) and finish at the iconic De La Warr Pavilion terrace.

The event will be led off by a grand parade of mobility scooters, which should be a really impressive sight

Lion President, Clare Kersley said, “This is going to be a great community event. It’s for everyone, walkers, mums and dads with prams but in particular we want to encourage mobility scooter and wheelchair users to take part. We hope that by bringing people together in a safe, sociable and supportive environment, this event can play a small part in helping to combat loneliness and isolation in our community.

We are encouraging people to bring a picnic to enjoy at the finish area. Hopefully, participants will have a great day and meet lots of new people.

Participants will not only gain a sense of achievement as they cross the finish line; they will also know that their efforts are supporting a very worthwhile cause – the Bexhill Caring Community. All proceeds from the event will go to this registered charity which cares for people of all ages and abilities in Bexhill, who are in need of help and support

We also want to encourage walkers of all ages, abilities and levels of mobility to take part, either on their own or with friends and family. In this way, we want it to be a true community event.”

The event has the support of Active Rother & Rother Sports Development to encourage everyone to be more active. This event can play its part in getting more people “active and moving” to help their overall wellbeing.

The route for the Grand Parade of Mobility Scooters will be 3.4 km. This will start at the Bexhill Sea Angling Club, travel along the promenade, round the South Cliff toilets and then return to the De La Warr Terrace.

Walkers and wheelchair users can choose one of two options on the day: 1.7 km from the Sea Angling Club to the De La Warr Terrace, or 3.4km along the same route as the mobility scooters.

There will be a prize for the best dressed scooter… so do come colourful! In addition, all participants will receive a finisher’s medal.
