Volunteer with Hands of Hope in Peasmarsh
Hands of Hope (HOH) is a charity based in Peasmarsh, working IN and FOR the local community with two main aims – to tackle social isolation in the elderly (loneliness) & childhood obesity, through the production of locally grown, organic food.
Farming 4 acres of Soil Association accredited land in Peasmarsh, we currently produce and sell our fruit and vegetables in local Farmer’s markets for the sole purpose of raising funds and awareness to support Planned Projects to help tackle these issues. We are currently raising funds to create the Hands of Hope Cook Van, which will be used throughout the year at local events to sell cooked food and Veggie Boxes.
Our projects can only be sustainable if we can engage with our local community for help:
From experience in growing, maintaining, preparing and cooking food, to fund-raising, managing market stalls and food-vans, or simply running our Lunch Clubs for the Elderly, HOH desperately need to hear from people who can spare as little or as much time as they have available to support these fantastic projects.
Grow to Show:
Our Grow to Show programme gives people the opportunity to donate their surplus fruit and vegetables or to grow specifically for Hands of Hope charity, to assist us in generating vital funds.
Prepare to Care:
Our Prepare to Care programme needs volunteers in food preparation to cook both sweet and savoury food that we can sell in order to generate vital funds required in order to run our projects.
Peasmarsh Lunch Club:
We are interested in launching Peasmarsh Seniors Lunch Club Programme and would like to start by establishing a lunch club in Peasmarsh, as the last club was cancelled due to funding. We are genuinely interested in hearing from anyone who could offer their support or who would be interested in either attending or volunteering, either in Peasmarsh or other surrounding villages where there is a need.
Grow to Show and Prepare to Care Volunteers can support us from home, the former providing surplus fruit and vegetables and the latter preparing cooked food using organic produce provided by Hands of Hope.
Farmers Markets: We currently need volunteers to assist in selling our produce in three farmers markets: Rye on Weds from 9:30 to Midday, Edgerton on Fridays from 2-4 and Beckley (monthly 10-12).
Growing and Maintaining the produce – as much or as little time as volunteers have available to help the Hands of Hope team Plant, Maintain and Harvest.
Lunch Clubs: We are currently trying to organise a weekly Seniors Club at Peasmarsh Village hall and all help is welcome.
Cook Van If you enjoy socialising and attending festivals and events, then manning our Cook Van during the summer season could be right up your street!
