Beachy Head East Marine conservation zone proposal
Beachy Head East Marine Conservation zoneBeachy Head East Marine conservation zone
Did you know that this is the last year for marine conservation zones to be designated in the UK?
The Beachy Head East Marine conservation zone (which starts at Beachy Head lighthouse through to Hasting pier and across the water to the Sovereign Lighthouse) has been discussed since the first applications were invited by government but unfortunately not been approved so far. The site includes blue mussel beds, endangered undulate rays and even seahorses and attracts many anglers and fishermen.
Although the designated area is currently known as Beachy Head East we do have an opportunity to name it something else. For more information on the area: https://mcsuk.org/mpa/show-1477566
The Marine Conservation Society are asking for our help to protect our local coast by:
- taking part in a short pole to name the area, closes 15th June – https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SZ698P6
- take part in the government consultation – https://consult.defra.gov.uk/marine/consultation-on-the-third-tranche-of-marine-conser/
